Resources for Federal Workers
In light of the recent federal shutdown, we have compiled a comprehensive list of resources and services to support affected federal employees. Please review the information below for guidance and resources to help you navigate these changes. Childcare and Caregivers
- Calvert County Family Daycare Association - Calvert County Family Daycare Association is a group of qualified providers who are able to network and share. They offer parents the opportunity to contact them to find care for their child.
- Calvert County Family Network - The Calvert County Family Network (CCFN) connects children, youth, and families to essential programs that support well-being, education, and economic stability. Whether you're seeking early childhood resources, youth services, or family support, CCFN can help refer you to available programs and resources. - Division of Early Childcare - Finding Childcare - Provides information on resources for finding regulated childcare programs in the state of Maryland. This includes the Maryland EXCEL online tool to find quality licensed childcare providers, The Maryland Headstart Association, and The Maryland Family Network.

Transportation
- Maryland Dept. of Transportation Commuter Bus Schedules - Maryland Commuter Bus Schedules - call seven days a week at 301-643-7257 for assistance.
- Commute with Enterprise - Pilot program, providing a $350 subsidy per van per month to commuters living or working in the Tri-County area including St. Marys, Charles and Calvert Counties. The subsidy can also be combined with other regional subsidy programs if the vanpool group is eligible for both. Each vanpool program is customized to the specific needs of its four or more vanpoolers. The remaining cost is split among participants, with each vanpool rider paying a set fee per month. - Federal Employees - Resources for Former Federal Workers - Are you a Marylander who has recently lost your job as a federal employee or contractor? This website provides information on resources like unemployment insurance benefits, career guidance, and reemployment support. This information will be updated as additional details become available.
- Federal Employees - Unemployment Insurance - Federal civilian employees who become unemployed due to no fault of their own can apply for Unemployment Compensation for Federal Employees (UCFE).
- Job Seekers - Maryland Workforce Exchange - Check out the Maryland Workforce Exchange for the latest job openings in Southern Maryland. View job postings, upload your resume, apply for job openings, view upcoming events on the MWE calendar – directly through the MWE website.
- Job Seeker - Calvert Library - Maryland Department of Labor, Veterans Program, Senior Community Service Employment and Job Service representatives will be in person at Calvert Library Prince Frederick to meet with those seeking employment or career change. Walk-ins welcome on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month. Calvert Library also provides Changing Career Skillbuilder Workshops, Resume and Job Interview Skillbuilder Workshops and the Southern Maryland Job Source Mobile Career Center.
- Job Seekers - Southern Maryland Job Source - The Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland/Southern Maryland JobSource Adult & Dislocated Workers program offers adults with high quality career services. Services include job connections, one-on-one services, trainings, and supportive services at no cost.
Food and Housing
- End Hunger of Calvert County - End Hunger In Calvert County is now doing business as Community Harvest Network. Use the Maryland Food Bank's "Find Food" tool to find a food pantry closest to you. Locate partner food pantries in Calvert County. The "Find Food" tool will allow you to locate the food pantry closest to you and includes hours of operation.

State and Federal Assistance
- Maryland Public Servants Resource Website - Governor Wes Moore launched the Maryland Public Servants Resource Website, which serves as a centralized hub for programs and resources to support Maryland’s federal employees and contractors impacted by federal workforce layoffs, firings, and changes to federal funding.
- Department of Education - Contact your loan servicer or child's financial aid office immediately to work out a plan and check your options. If you have a federal student loan, you may be able to lower the monthly amount by switching plans or pausing payments through deferment or forbearance.
- Veteran's Resource Guide - Resource guide for veterans and military families, providing information about supports for employment, benefits, education and more.
Mental Health
- National Crisis Hotline - Need immediate emotional support? Call 988 to connect with a trained counselor who can help. Confidential support is available 24/7 because everyone needs help sometimes. Call whenever you need emergency emotional support or are worried about someone else. The 988 helpline is free and confidential.
- Local Crisis Hotline - 877-467-5MAT -Calvert Crisis Response is available 24/7 via the crisis hotline and can provide crisis behavioral health services.
- National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI) - National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) offers Family-to-Family, a free 8-session education program for family members, friends, and caregivers of adults with mental health conditions. The program provides evidence-based information on mental health disorders, communication strategies, problem-solving, treatment options, and recovery while helping participants maintain their own well-being. Taught by trained family members, the course is available to residents of Southern Maryland and select counties. Other free services include Recovery Support and Family Support Groups.
