In 2023, with assistance from a Department of Housing and Community Development grant, Calvert County demolished the Louis L. Goldstein National Guard Armory at 175 Armory Road in Prince Frederick to make way for a Calvert County-owned and operated open-air, multi-use pavilion.

Armory Pavilion is designed to facilitate a variety of year-round activities, including a farmer’s market, community events, arts, and entertainment. The plans for the space include amenities such as restrooms, a surrounding grassy area, seasonal ice skating rink, and a future commercial kitchen.

It will also preserve the agricultural character of Calvert County by honoring the Armory’s history featuring memorial benches and the National Guard motto, “Always Ready, Always There”.

Once finished, Armory Pavilion is poised to become a central gathering space in the heart of the Prince Frederick Town Center and will be a complementary use that is easily accessible from the Armory Square development across the street.

A ceremonial groundbreaking for the Armory Pavilion project was held September 9, 2025.
