The Board of County Commissioners of Calvert County will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 7 p.m. at Southern Community Center, 20 Appeal Lane, Lusby, MD 20657, for the purpose of receiving testimony from the public on the Petition of the Property Owners Association of Chesapeake Ranch Estates (“POACRE”) to establish a new Special Taxing District beginning Fiscal Year 2024 and continuing through June 30, 2027.  

The proposed amount of tax POACRE’s Board request to be levied against each is Two Hundred Seventy-Five Dollars ($275.00) per lot in the Chesapeake Ranch Estates subdivision per year. POACRE’s Board estimates the income from this levy will be approximately One Million Two Hundred Fifty-Two Thousand Five Hundred Forty-Eight Dollars ($1,252,548.00) annually. The following expenditures in support of POACRE’s operations are proposed over the 4-year term of the proposed District: Road Maintenance, Engineering, Road Improvements Program, Dam Maintenance, Stormwater Facility Maintenance Program, Right-Of-Way Stormwater Management Program, Safety, and Emergency/Disaster.  Total proposed budget for the four-year term of the proposed district is Five Million Ten Thousand One Hundred Ninety-Two Dollars ($5,010,192.00).

All funds remaining in the existing District are proposed to be carried forward to this District. All funds generated by the special taxing district may be spent only in accordance with the express provisions of the ordinance creating the district and any agreement executed by POACRE’s Board and the Board of County Commissioners. Following the Public Hearing, the Board of County Commissioners may deny the petition, amend the existing special taxing district, or enact a new special taxing district as requested by POACRE, or as deemed appropriate by the Board of County Commissioners.

All persons interested, or their agents or attorneys, may appear before the County Commissioners on the date and time noted above and be heard concerning the proposed Special Tax District. Copies of the petition filed by POACRE may be obtained at the POACRE office, 395 Clubhouse Drive, Lusby, MD 20657. The petition may also be viewed by clicking on the “Public Hearings” link on the County’s website at: www.calvertcountymd.gov.

This Notice is as required by Title 4 of the Public Local Laws of Calvert County.  The petition referenced within was prepared by the Board of Directors of POACRE.  The statements made and the facts asserted in that petition are those of the Board of Directors of POACRE and not of the Board of County Commissioners.
