2023 Therapeutic Recreation Summer Camps
The Calvert County Department of Parks & Recreation Therapeutic Recreation Services is pleased to offer multiple summer camp options for individuals with special needs this year.
Camp Calvert
Camp Calvert is a four week summer camp for children and youth ages 5-21 years (camper must be 5 by June 26, 2023 – no exceptions!) with various disabilities to participate in the same beneficial and fun programs found at a traditional camp. Personal care will be available for medications, g-tubes and personal hygiene.
Bus transportation to and from camp will be available starting in Lusby and running north to Mt. Hope Community Center with multiple pick up locations along this route.
Camp will run Monday-Friday, June 26 - July 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (No camp July 4) at the Mt. Hope Community Center in Sunderland. Cost is $700 per camper. Activity # 573990
TR Teen Adventure Camp
This teen camp is for individuals ages 13-21 years who have functioning disabilities that affect their social and emotional abilities. This camp promotes appropriate peer interaction, communication and community integration through field trips and activities. Registrants must be able to participate with minimal assistance. NO PERSONAL CARE WILL BE PROVIDED.
Bus transportation to and from camp will be available starting in Lusby and running north to Mt. Hope Community Center with multiple pick up locations along this route.
Camp will run Monday-Friday, June 26-July 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (No camp July 4) at the Mt. Hope Community Center in Sunderland. Cost is $700 per camper. Activity # 575991
TR Tot Camp
This camp is designed to allow children ages 3-5 years with various disabilities to attend a week-long, half-day camp. Children will participate in traditional camp games, crafts, sports and fitness activities. Campers must bring their own lunches. Children in diapers or pull ups will be accepted.
Two camp sessions will be offered.
Session A will run Monday - Friday, July 24-28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mt. Hope Community Center in Sunderland (Activity # 574990). Cost is $100 per camper.
Session B will run Monday - Friday, July 24-28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Southern Community Center in Lusby (Activity # 574991). Cost is $100 per camper.
Listen to Your ART Inclusion Camp
This program is designed for individuals ages 8-16 years with various disabilities who are interested in participating in a week of exploring different musical and art mediums in a friendly and supportive environment. Mediums will rotate throughout the day and cost includes all necessary materials. Campers will need to bring a packed bag lunch each day. Campers must be able to participate with minimal assistance.
Camp will run Monday-Friday, July 31-Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Harriet E. Brown Community Center (Activity # 571931 ). Cost is $125 per camper.
TR Aquatic Camp
This camp is for individuals ages 8-18 years with special needs. Participants will meet at the Hall Aquatic Center daily for a week of aquatic activities. Campers will participate in group swim lessons, crafts, water safety activities, aquatic exercise and open swim. Campers will need to bring all necessary swim gear, including sunscreen, as well as a bag lunch. Campers must be able to participate with minimal assistance.
Camp will run Monday-Friday, Aug. 7-11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Edward T. Hall Aquatic Center (Activity # 571995) . Cost is $150 per camper.
Summer Daze Inclusion Camp
This camp is for all children ages 6 to 16 years of age and will cater to those looking for a typical summer camp experience while also incorporating activities geared toward those with special needs. This camp will not participate in regular filed trips, however campers will meet each week at a designate location for swimming.
Multiple sessions will be offered at two locations:
Mt. Hope Community Center (Activity #571932)
Section A: July 24-28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $125
Section B: July 31-Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost $125
Patuxent Appeal Campus- Primary Building (Activity #571933)
Section A: July 24-28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $125
Section B: July 31-Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost $125
CPR Cool Kids Camp
This camp is available for inclusion in all areas of the County. TRS will assist with accommodations for those who would like to participate with fellow peers; however, campers must be able to adhere to camp rules with minimal assistance. Additional staff would offer support to keep the child on task and reminding to follow the rules of all campers of appropriate behavior. If the camper is not compliant with participation or has an acting out behavior that impacts the camp activities, a parent would be called and the camp discipline would be followed. Staff would not be able to offer bathroom assistance or changing. Cool Kids Camp runs Monday-Friday, June 21-August 11 (no camp 7/4) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at multiple locations throughout the County. Please contact TRS to see if this is an option for your child.
All camps require pre-registration. Please contact TRS by phone at 410-535-1600 ext. 8204 or 8205 to register. Parent or guardian must complete and return the registration form before registration is considered complete.
